This song was written on a self-imposed two week reclusive songwriting retreat on the top of Apex mountain near Penticton, BC. The silence following the words "Sleep Deep" is intended to let the ambient sounds of the environment bleed through and bring the listener's awareness to the room. There was debate on adding room noise to this pause, but it was left bare to let your own environment come through.
lyrics
I caught you smiling to yourself into the mirror
It was reflecting your glow into my heart
And when I run and hide, from some fear or other
Or when my tongue is tied, I remember you said:
"Sleep deep and rise slow.
We already know everything we need to know.
Get wise with the passing time.
Just lay down with me now and we'll be fine."
I was just floating by myself along a river
And when I stopped awhile to rest on the shore
That's when you caught my eye from deep in the water
And I didn't wonder why, I jumped right in and heard:
"Sleep deep and rise slow.
We already know everything we need to know.
Get wise with the passing time.
Just lay down with me now and we'll be fine."
What could I do? I'm immune to advice.
Advice doesn't work on me.
But you speak the truth and I had no choice,
You see what I can't see, and you said:
"Sleep deep and rise slow.
We already know everything we need to know.
Get wise with the passing time.
Just lay down with me now and we'll be fine."
